Symptoms
- Painful, red, swollen bump on eyelid
- Feeling like something is in your eye
- Sensitivity to light
- Watery eyes
- Small yellow center (pus) at the tip of the bump
Causes
- Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (most common)
- Poor eyelid hygiene
- Touching or rubbing your eyes frequently
- Sharing eye makeup or cosmetics
- Previous eye inflammation
Treatments
- Warm compresses applied for 10-15 minutes several times daily
- Over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
- Antibiotic ointment (if prescribed by doctor)
- Don't squeeze or pop the stye
- Usually heals within 1-2 weeks
